First Impressions: Dishonored

http://www.destructoid.com//ul/236862-hd%20dishonored%20dlc.jpg
Before I go on about the game, I just want to make a quick little statement; I thought a lot about the future of the website and I really want to see it go far. We always complain and talk about how we never post and we promise we will but after a while it doesn't really pan out. It just comes back to this cycle we have gotten in. But this time, I really promise, that this website will be getting my 100% from now on. We've made so much progress on here and I would hate to just see it go to waste because I got lazy. This website was my little project and it's grown into a lot more so here's to the close and successful future.

Now back to the real reason why you're here; Dishonored. Released in October, this game became one of the most highly anticipated releases of the year along with Black Ops (bleh) and Halo 4 and it's easy to see why; this game is highly addictive. Bethesda proved once again that they belong on top considering that they're the franchise that produced not only Dishonored but Skyrim and Fallout 3 and New Vegas. It creates the story of Corvo Attano, the body guard to the Empress of Dunwall who is murdered shortly upon his return. When discovering the Empress' bloody body and the missing daughter, Emily, with only Corvo left at the crime scene, he is immediately thumbed as the murder. Once he is thrown in jail awaiting his execution, he is aided by "A Friend" who leaves him the keys to break free and escape the city to assume his role as an Assassin. He goes on his journey to seek out the lost Emily and bring revenge upon those who dishonored him. I'm going to start off with the bad here just because there is a slim amount:

The Bad: Contrary to the commercials and bits of game play, the graphics were a very large let down. You'd think coming from Bethesda who just released the beautiful Skyrim: Elder Scrolls, you would see some of that graphic ingenuity but you get a lot more of a Fallout/Bioshock feel. Not to dig on my favorite game, but Bioshock's graphics are no Skyrim. Anyway, I talked to a fellow Dishonored fan and they agreed, the graphics were a huge let down. I feel like they were so pressed for time to let this game out of the gates that they didn't exactly pay too much attention to it but the good thing is the graphics aren't a huge turn off from the game, more like a pet peeve. Another displeasing aspect is probably the lack of interactivity. You get a lot of repetitive interactive commands in the game like throwing bottles, opening chests, but I would have liked to have seen a little more with it because over time it just seems like the same old  things, nothing really presents itself as new and it can get kind of repetitive. The only downside to this is that it can make the game seem very predictable. You sneak behind some guards, slit their throats and you keep doing the same things only to achieve different goals.

The Good: Alright, the goods of this game highly overcome the bads. I kind of had to scrape the bottom of the barrel for the bads but all in all, it's a fantastic game. I can honestly say the plot line is so different from a lot of the other games I've played in a while. It's almost like this fantastic combination of Bioshock and Assassin's Creed but it still stays true to it's own game. It strays away from your typical first person action type of game and creates all new levels within itself. You're not just an assassin, you have these fantastic gifts as you've been imprinted with this mark on your hand. You can teleport, see through walls, hold a freaking mechanical heart and find these artifacts to level up you're different skills. I love the whole sneaking around and breaking into buildings and doing optional quests. One thing I absolutely love about the game and this stays true with several games, is the whole "you choose your destiny" factor. I think that one of my favorite things about any game. It just adds a whole new element to any game making it so possible to do so many other things. It really just satisfies all the things I love in a video game.

So overall, I would say this game is definitely worth checking out. If you're like me and you love Bioshock and the whole theme of Assassin's Creed, this will really suit you. Plus it has a whole new feel, something I've never seen before in a video game. Well done Bethesda. Well done.

Were Probably Back And Maybe Better Than Ever?

Hey, wow, so long time no see.
None of us have been present on here in a long time and I mean long time in internet years. Here's the typical excuse; we were busy. In all seriousness though, school has really eaten up a lot of our time. All four of us are entering the big senior year and we have been pretty focused with after school things and grades, all that good stuff. But hey, what time is it? Summer time! (High School Musical reference, I'm really sorry about that) Anyway, it's summer time. We will have ample time to post about games. So look out for reviews, upcoming game posts, and some Let's Plays!
This isn't the last you've seen of us. We'll be back.
They always come back.

On My Christmas List

Well, I'm on vacation in New York but I still feel the need to post considering I haven't in a while. On every gamer's Christmas List, there are a few good games for a lot of good reasons. Here's the most often requested for Christmas as of this year and I'll even give you a few of the game's I asked Santa to bring me!

Most Asked For Santa To Bring:
  1. Battle Field 3
  2. Modern Warfare 3
  3. Saint's Row The Third
  4. Assassin's Creed: Revelations
  5. Gears of War 3
My Christmas List:
  1. Batman Arkham City & Arkham Asylum
  2. The New Harvest Moon for DS
  3. Just Dance 3
  4. Assassin's Creed: Revelations
Now here's a surprise, I asked for.. ugh.. an XBOX 360. Okay, I know. I'm COMPLETELY pro-PS3 and even if I do get an XBOX, I'll still pledge my allegiance to my PS3. But XBOX has a lot of specifically, only-for-XBOX games (Left 4 Dead, Fable, Viva Pinata - haha) that I would love to try out and, hey, review for you guys! So it'll be all good. I'll still love my PS3 the most, but you'll get more posts from me! We all win!

Merry Christmas, and Happy Gaming!

The Best Has Yet To Come!

Stop crying. We know you've already finished MW3 and Battlefield 3. You're currently trying to further advance yourself in Skyrim and perfect your skills in Zelds S.S. So what's next for you? The most awaited games have come out and you seem to have nothing left to live for. To make your sad little nerdy selves a bit happier, we've compiled a few things to brighten your geeky lives (for now)!
  1. Upcoming Games To Keep You Going:
  • Mario Kart 7 (12/4/11)
  • Mass Effect 3 (3/6/12)
  • Halo 4 (Available for Pre-Order)
  • Final Fantasy XII - 2 (1/31/12)
  • Sly Cooper 4: Thieves in Time (2012)
  • Mario Party 9 (Pre-Order)
  • Animal Crossing 3DS (Pre-Order)
  • Bioshock Infinite (2/1/12)
   2. Black Friday / CyberMonday:

News is, this year is supposed to be the biggest blowout with CyberMonday and Black Friday. GameStop is staying open late as well as several other game stores with massive deals on newly released games. Trust me, if you have a low budget for games, these are two opportunities for you to grab hold of the games you've been longing for. I know I'm going to get Just Dance 3 so Riley, Kamu, and myself can have a dance party, maybe even make it into a video of weekly arcade if you're lucky! Either or, games like Battlefield, MW3, Uncharted 3, are supposed to be ten to maybe even twenty dollars off so go wait in the massive Best Buy line and get yourself a good game for cheap!

   3. An Idea

Neither Riley or Kamu know about this but I'm thinking of maybe developing an App for the site. It's not huge by any means, but my friend Rilea is actually a developer and makes Apps for people. I will definitely pitch the idea to him to help make a user friendly App for anyone who frequently checks out the site!

What We're Playing: Uncharted

Recently I bought the Uncharted dual pack with Uncharted #1&2 and so far I must say, this game is like Tomb Raider reloaded and with an attractive man as your main character. I'm only on level five, and I've alread discovered Sir Francis Drake's mock coffin, a temple that held a gigantic gold statue, a ship that contained a map with the road to El Dorado, and jumped out of a plane that was on fire. Whats next? I partake in hardcore parkour while carrying an injured African Child I just saved from a burning village while looking for a lost treasure buried in Africa? At this rate it should be. Although this game is really lacking in the graphic's area (well I am only on Drake's Fortune which was released in 2007 so I guess it's really nice for it's time) so I suspect 2 and 3 will be a lot better graphics wise.

Regardless, the plot is really interesting and the game play is fantastic especially if you like a little shooting mixed with adventure. Not to mention it's really engaging and well worth the praise it gets. All in all, it's very worth the money spent. A little piece of advice, if you're going to just start playing to get ready for #3, I would suggest you buy the dual pack at GameStop. You get #1 and #2 for about $35.00! Way better than paying $40.00+ for them separately. Then you can save money to buy #3!

Breaking Out The Big Guns: MW3 (Big Spoilers Ahead)

So let's talk about something thats been on everyone's minds for the past week and that is:

You got that right, this week's Big Gun game is CoD: MW3.

Modern Warfare 3 came out this past Tuesday, or 12:00 AM for you hardcore gamers like myself, and it's been the subject of mixed reviews. Let's get this off with my personal account. Modern Warfare is easily my favorite branch of the CoD franchise. To me, the plot was amazing. Nothing get's better than a good ol' fashioned battle between the Russians and good old Amuurica! The graphics in this game are just visually stunning. And seeing as I'm a girl, Soap (R.I.P my sweet prince) wasn't too bad to look at either. So back on track, MW3 starts off exactly where MW2 leaves off. You're transporting a very injured Soap to a location that Nikolai knows about. Price is still on the trail of Makarov and he's picked a new friend, Yuri, a man who "hates Makarov more than I do". The best part of MW3 was that they brought in all the elements that I loved from MW2, the traveling to different parts of the world, bringing in national landmarks, the lovable characters, everything. (Although, the scene where the little girl gets blown up is a little much.) Regardless, I think it was well worth my money, but then again, I'm very biased and still very ticked off that they killed Ghost off in MW2 and now I'm even more pissed that they killed off the love of my video game life, John McTavish, aka Soap.

Moving on to the non-biased opinion, this game ultimately had it's flaws. First off, did anyone think that #3 was really short? I got through it in a day and a half and it really seemed a lot shorter than #2. With the two amazing companies, Activision and Infinity Ward hating each other, I feel like they tried to get through it as fast as they possibly could like when you have to work with someone you hate at school on a project and you rush through and it doesn't turn out as good as it could. Which I don't understand considering Treyarch and Activision liked each other, but BlackOps still sucked. (Too soon? Oh, get over it, BlackOps was terrible)
Another issue with MW3 was that it was a repeat of MW2. I can see how you would think that, but what more can you really do? Considering they launched a World War, I thought they could have done so much more. And they did have similar missions, like starting out underwater (Mission in France vs the oil rig in MW2). Even one of the online maps is almost identical to one in MW2. Overall, that is a letdown, but the ending, everyone has to agree, is amazing and I feel is one of the redeeming qualities of the cons here.

In my opinion, this game gets a 5 out of 5, but with an un biased point of view this game gets a:

It's been a long time.

Well, I guess I'm back. After a long time of thinking about it, I need to get back into the habit of this website. I never really thought of how important this was to me. This, my baby, turned into something bigger and I wasn't here for it. Like now, we apparently have another person on board which I wasn't really clued in on for the most part until Riley just kinda told me about it one day in a French Club meeting. I feel like this still is my website, although Riley might beg to differ, but it's mine none the less.
Considering the fact that I'm going into computer software & gaming engineering, this website might be one of the best things under my belt and I really do miss having the motivation of coming on this everyday and trying to build it up. So enough with the excuses, the commander in chief is back in town.

MIA

I don't know if I'll finish the Childhood Games posts just because things have gotten so hectic around here and with school it's going to feel impossible to put anything up. Now and again I will post, but for now I'm taking a small break just to adjust to the flow of school.

Sly Cooper Returning From My Childhood:

So if you know anything about me, you'd know one of my all time favorite games is Sly Cooper. That sneaky little raccoon captured my heart with the first game Sly Cooper & The Thievius Raccoonus and has held it's place in my heart for some time. Now, as I'm approaching my last years as a teenager, Sly Cooper is coming back with memories of my childhood in hand!

It was announced at E3 that Sly Cooper: Thieves in Time will be released in 2012 which nearly gave me a heart attack alone. But wait until you see the teaser trailer:

From the looks of it, the graphics are visually stunning, a gigantic leap from its PS2 days. I cannot wait until they release further information about the game. Who else is excited?!

Coming Up With Concepts:

I came up with a concept for a new series and it's gonna be called "Girls Got Game". I don't know how the heck I'm going to do this. I wanted it to be Riley's "Let's Play" kinda deal but I think he's marked that territory. So I don't know maybe it'll just be reviews and achievements or maybe I will do my own version of Let's Play (with a better name ;) but hey, at least I have ideas.

What's On The Web: NYANNYANNYANNYANNYAN

If you've been on the internet, you know what nyan cat is. A while back, one of the blogs I was following posted something that read along the lines of "I Nyaned for ten minutes!" or something and below that, there was a link. When I clicked that link, I saw what was Nyan Cat.
This adorable poptart cat with a rainbow coming out of his caboose became a pop culture sensation in hours. I couldn't check Facebook without seeing people post "I'VE NYANED AND I CAN'T STOP." I'm actually "nyaning" right this second. That little cat sings a harmonious melody of nyans that seeps into your brain and makes you challenge yourself to see how long you can possibly take the hypnotic sound.
Nyan cat has taken a few different forms such as the famous poptart, and a piece of toast but my favorite was when he surprised us on 4/20 as he dressed up as a Rastafarian once the clock hit 420 seconds. Silly Nyan cat.
Next time you play, click the lower the volume as many times as you can until.. well you'll see.
Jacksfilms Parody:

By the end of this blog post I NYANED FOR 900 SECONDS.

High Hopes: Bishock Infinite

If you're like me, you're OBSESSED with Bioshock. To me it is one of the most interesting plot lines with stunning graphics and intense game play. It just gets you hooked from the begining. With the announcement of Bioshock Infinite, I've been waiting on pins and needles just to see a bit of gameplay, so when Irrational Games released the complete ten minute demo, I flipped out. This seems to be one of the most promising bioshocks to date. The graphics are flawless and you jump right into the action, there's no lengthy in depth crap about whats going on. You learn whats happened hands on. I'm curious to know why exactly they left the confines of Rapture and moved to Columbia, the city in the sky. From the looks of this screen shot:
It seems that this is another situation of a ruler wanting their colony to be perfect (the whole Lamb and her children situation down in Rapture) so my guess would be, with all the immigration from outsiders coming into the US, they declared no other immigrants penetrate their land so they made their land in the sky, but of course, corruption took over. I'm counting down the days until they release this beauty.

We're On The Web!

This is a little blog called:
KILL SCREEN
Kill screen:
A kill screen is a stage or level in a video game (often an arcade game) that stops the player's progress due to a programming error or design oversight. Rather than "ending" in a traditional sense, the game will crash, freeze, or behave so erratically that further play is impossible.
Welcome to the world of Kill Screen! Kill Screen was thought up by a lonely little nerd named Cassidy with a want to create an amazing gaming website that no one in the video gaming world could resist. She paired up with Riley, her closest ally in the realm of video games, and set off on their journey.

But in all seriousness, we've both spent 99% of our lives playing games whether it be on computer or console and I figured,"Why not make a website that lets me talk about one of the best things in life?". Then I paired up with Riley and all plans seemed final. Now there's no going back.
